A US cable company that says “Jam tomorrow” to its customers, and puts off investment into the future, is likely to lose customers. And the announcement this week that Altice will force its US operations away from DOCSIS, bypassing DOCSIS 3.1 and going straight to fiber, has that kind of feel about it. Either it is madness or it is genius. It aims to go straight to FTTH technology in five years, overtaking all US cablecos in the process, though we are skeptical.
