Here at Faultline we have gone on about CBS merging with Viacom for the past few months, and the deal now appears to have been called off by the holding company which controls both businesses. The Redstone family who in turn controls that holding company, is perhaps worried that weighing down CBS with Viacom will lead to an aggregate fall in their value, and that could have been triggered by a number of things. Firstly, we suspect that the CEO of CBS did not want to have the problem of recreating the Viacom brand, when his own CBS business is on a high.
