China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) is launching a consultation regarding the use of millimeter wave spectrum for 5G. In particular, it is studying spectrum in the 24.75-27.5 GHz, and 37-42.5 GHz ranges. The public consultation is intended to collect feedback from the industry on issues like 5G planning, interference risks to nearby bands, technical obstacles and a spectrum roadmap. The consultation will close on August 7. The MIIT has already launched a public consultation on the use of the 3.3-3.6 GHz and 4.9-5.0 GHz bands for 5G. The three Chinese operators plan 5G trials from 2018 and want to be in the first wave of worldwide deployers, but that will depend on getting access to spectrum. One…
