CommScope and Kathrein in antenna patents pact

Patent peace is breaking out in many areas of the mobile industry as IPR holders look to avoid expensive litigation. In the latest example, two major base station antenna makers – CommScope and Kathrein – have signed a cross-licensing deal for parts of their respective patent portfolios. This should avert any potential lawsuits, and could even signal closer technology exchange, or even a merger, in future, some sources speculated. Kathrein will gain access to CommScope’s IPR in digital DAS (distributed antenna system), an area where the US firm has become a major player.
