Making sense of the wealth of information which service providers can obtain about users and connected objects will rely on context awareness, and this is seen as a key objective of 5G, supporting a new range of services and big data analytics. ETSI has established a new Industry Specification Group (ISG) to work on specs for managing contextual information, with particular focus on the smart city environment. The new group consists of representatives from Orange, Telefonica, NEC, Easy Global Market and imec. They expect to work with other groups within ETSI such as the SmartM2M technical committee, and with external groups, such as oneM2M, of which ETSI is a founding member.
