Even 12,000 new channels won’t save the DTH market

There should be no major surprise when a satellite research firm puts out a report claiming there will be more than 12,000 new linear channels in the next 10 years, but we do feel obliged to pick at its methodology and remind our readers that this is just another cover up for a market that is being devastated by OTT video. The 9th Edition of Northern Sky Research’s (NSR) Linear TV via Satellite report projects that 12,200 new channels will launch by 2026 to reach a total of over 53,600 channels being delivered over satellite by that time.
