The retail sector has seemed to be on the verge of an avalanche of Bluetooth beacons for a while now, and yet we still haven’t seen the promise of contextual information and footfall-catching promotional offers come to the fore – or the high-street. But we are another step closer this week, as Qualcomm-offshoot Gimbal has signed two deals that see it supply beacons to stores. The first deal saw Gimbal partner with PlaceWise Media, a company that provides digital media services for shopping malls. The second win sees Marketo, a supplier of marketing software, integrate its platform with Gimbal’s beacons, for better location-based marketing.
