HBO has been experimenting with direct to consumer content since 2005, so it was no surprise to either great rival Netflix or the analyst community when it decided to go direct to consumers with HBO Now in the US in April 2015. Operations and figures: HBO is part of Time Warner, which is currently being acquired by AT&T. HBO contributed $1.57 billion towards Q1 2017 total revenue of $7.7 billion, with Warner Brothers and Turner contributing the rest, roughly evenly. HBO drove $538 million of operating income up 22%, ahead of Warner Brothers, with Turner bringing in $1.17 billion in operating income.
