Microsoft is backing away from yet more elements of its failed acquisition of Nokia’s device business, selling the featurephone portfolio to a division of Foxconn. Meanwhile, as its non-compete deal with Microsoft comes to an end, Nokia itself is returning to the handset space, indirectly at least, by licensing its brand and reference designs to a new Finnish start-up called HMD in a 10-year agreement. This deal mirrors one Nokia already has in tablets – also with Foxconn, and indeed, its latest move is supported by a four-way arrangement between all these players.
