Nokia, Intel and NTT Docomo are working on trials of pre-5G services in the 4.5 GHz spectrum, a candidate 5G band in Japan. The companies are using Nokia’s 5G First platform to test end-to-end applications over the air between the vendor’s AirScale base station and Intel’s 5G Mobile Trial Platform. The tests will take place in areas of dense usage, such as tourist and shopping centers, in capital Tokyo. The partners will also conduct trials at large public events, in preparation for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. “This trial is an important milestone for the development of 5G in Japan, wwhich will be one of the first countries in the world to adopt the technology,” said Jae Won, head of Nokia Japan.…
