The CeBIT tradeshow has provided the backdrop for Oracle and SAP to make inroads into energy utility markets, with Oracle announcing a new device management cloud platform, and SAP gaining a tactical partner via a deal with Huawei, which sees the Chinese telco infrastructure provider launch a new smart metering offering with a pre-integrated SAP for Utilities stack. As energy grid operators digitize their infrastructure, they need IT systems to support these new deployments or retrofits, as well as new platforms to support the new installations of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), to collect and process all those smart meter readings.
