The legal quagmire in which Qualcomm and Apple find themselves got more murky last week when the chip giant added four iPhone manufacturers to its litigation targets. The company has accused Foxconn, Pegatron, Wistron and Compal Electronics of “breaching license agreements and other commitments” and alleges they are not paying for rights to Qualcomm’s technologies. It is seeking damages and a commitment to comply with the terms of their contracts. Qualcomm said in its statement that the manufacturers have been told not to pay by Apple, even though some of the licensing deals pre-date the first iPhone sale in 2007.
