As though the UK were not already competitive enough, satellite TV provider Sky has made its long-awaited move into the quad play market. It is belatedly launching its own MVNO, Sky Mobile, which will run on Telefonica O2’s network and will go live on October 31. Sky originally announced its MVNO plan back in February 2015. It has been somewhat slow to follow through on this necessary response to all the quad play activity in the UK. Incumbent telco BT acquired the largest MNO, EE, to re-enter the mobile space and has also invested aggressively in TV assets, pressurizing Sky in its key area of differentiation, exclusive sports coverage.
