Start-up XcellAir offering cablecos WiFi hope

Client steering and mesh networking will be terms familiar to readers of Faultline Online Reporter, as technologies praised for their ability to enhance in-home WiFi, which is otherwise choked by multiple video streams. But a player perhaps less well-known in this space is XcellAir, a 2-year old company spun out of InterDigital, which was talking up its cloud-based software at Cable Congress in Brussels this week, as part of CableLab’s innovation showcase.   XcellAir’s mesh networking technology uses different types of spectrum combining WiFi, LTE in 5 GHz, and small cells, whether it be unlicensed, licensed or popular emerging standards.
