Turin to become Italy’s first 5G city

The Italian city of Turin is set to be the first in the country, and among the first in Europe, to have a trial 5G network available to its citizens. The municipality has signed a memorandum of understanding with mobile operator TIM to launch a technology trial next year, followed by a city-wide mobile broadband network by 2020. TIM plans to install more than 100 small cells in the main areas of the city, starting later this year. Targeted areas include the major thoroughfares (Via Roma , Via Po , Via Garibaldi and Via Lagrange), the Piazza Vittorio , and the areas around the Polytechnic University and University of Turin.
