Xiaomi’s VP of International, Hugo Barra, has jumped ship to Facebook, leaving the struggling Chinese company to take the helm at VR-mainstay Oculus – as VP Virtual Reality. Tellingly, Barra’s departure announcement was made on Facebook, the owner of Oculus, which was reorganized at the end of 2016 to form two distinct mobile and PC groups. When Barra was headhunted from Google, his appointment lent credence to the upstart Xiaomi – with an experienced executive at the helm, ready to lead its conquest of Western markets.
