The proposed $20bn merger between Canadian operators Rogers and Shaw has stalled after talks with the country’s competition bureau broke down, prompting a search for a new compromise. This comes almost 20 months after the two operators first confirmed terms for a deal had been agreed between them on March 15 2021. The road from there to agreement had already been bumpy with three separate regulators involved, reflecting the convergence between entertainment and telecoms, as well as broader competitive concerns.
