President Trump has established the National Energy Dominance Council with the aim of accelerating US fossil fuel production through regulatory streamlining and supporting private sector investments, also granting conditional approval for a 9.5 million ton liquefied natural gas export hub in Louisiana, to come online in 2029. Global emissions, coal and gas and oil demand are all set to peak around 2030, which in other words means they are still growing to record highs – up a few percentage points in 2024. These growth rates are at least lower than the immediate post-pandemic years. The first light at the end of the tunnel will be peak Chinese coal in 2027 or earlier.
