A new hydrogen production tax credit could come into play in the US as early as next year having passed the House of Representatives on Friday. Part of President Biden’s Build Back Better Bill, the ten-year tax credit will see the government offset the cost of green hydrogen by one-third, making it cost competitive with existing hydrogen supplies from 2022, according to Rethink Energy. The bill was passed just days after the $1.2 trillion Infrastructure and Jobs bill was also passed through the house, leveraging $9.5 billion of public cash to be spent on subsidizing green hydrogen, and reducing its cost to below $2 per kilogram by 2026.
