A rising proportion of 5G network launches are now based on 5G NR Standalone (SA), which uses a 5G core rather than relying on the legacy LTE core. The number of 5G devices, platforms and chipsets supporting SA continues to proliferate rapidly and is now approaching three-quarters of all 5G devices currently being announced (71.8% in August). This is up from 54.6% just eight months earlier in December 2021, which was itself only a slight increase from 69.7% a year before that, in December 2020, although well up by 35.5% on the December 2019 total.
