Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) for cellular positioning has always been vulnerable to attack, but the practice has been increasingly prevalent in Europe since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022. Now, two US firms have partnered on a product to shore up navigation systems using LEO satellite signals for providers in Europe and Asia Pacific. US firms Adtran, an optical networking vendor, and Iridium Satellite Communications are extending their global services, offering another option that can be used when GNSS, specifically GPS, has been compromised.
