Australia has moved forward with vital transmission infrastructure to support its massive solar and wind pipeline in New South Wales’ Renewable Energy Zones (REZs). The Victoria to New South Wales Interconnector – ‘VNI West’ – has been approved. The preferred route for the 530 kilometer, 500 kV, 1,800 MW line has been dubbed Keranglink. In an agreement between Victoria state and the federal Coalition government, each will provide $148 million funding for early development and planning, but the full route will cost between $1.3 billion and $2.3 billion.
