In a month of febrile activity in the orbital sector, satellite operator Avanti announced a new strategy. Avanti’s Chief of Strategy and Business Development, Toby Robinson, spoke to Wireless Watch about why the firm is reaching for the telecommunications playbook. UK-headquartered Avanti said last week that it was transitioning from managing geostationary satellites, to become a “global multi-orbit provider of fully integrated connectivity services.” In short, instead of putting more hardware in the sky, Avanti will use the resources of other satellite companies (where needed) to buy capacity to sell to its customers.
