The US state of California could be home to 10 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2040, according to a new bill, which aims to put it at the forefront of the country’s floating wind ambitions and push to net zero emissions. The new target comes as part of the AB 525 bill proposed by David Chiu, a Democratic member of the Californian State Assembly. Along with the target for 2040, the bill also proposes a target for 3 GW by 2030 and would direct state agencies to begin addressing the copious barriers to offshore wind deployment on the US west coast.
