China’s National Renewable Energy Information Management Center has announced the official completion of the largest transaction yet seen in its green energy certificate system: A Joint Venture purchased 30,160 certificates – equivalent to a one-off of 30.16 GWh – from Hebei Huadian Kangbao Wind. The green certificate program has been largely ignored since its launch in 2017, with most considering it not worth participating in yet. Under current incentives and emissions regulations, only 42,655 certificates had been issued prior to the recent massive transaction, most of which had been sold in the first year of the scheme.
