In the 60 GHz band (57-64 GHz), a group of companies are asking the FCC to split the spectrum into three portions. Qualcomm, Intel and Meta Platforms are leading the call for segmentation, to allow AR/VR and mixed reality/extended reality (MR/XR) applications to coexist with radar in the 57-64 GHz range. This spectrum has mainly been used on an unlicensed basis for the WiFi-like WiGig technology, and its high bandwidth and free-for-all nature make it key for applications that require high capacity and low latency, such as AR/VR/MR/XR.
