Despite some telco fears about the launch of AWS Private 5G (see separate item), one telco that sees no threat in the AWS moves is Dish, which recently announced that it would run some of its virtualized basebands, for its 5G RAN, in the AWS public cloud. Its CTO, Marc Rouanne, gave a keynote address at re:Invent, reiterating its plan to build a ‘network of networks’ in which each enterprise customer, including Dish’s own MVNOs, would have a slice. Dish will use a mixture of AWS Outposts together with the Local Zones and Regions services.
