Dish’s need to diversify its business model was highlighted once again in its quarterly results, in which it suffered further subscriber losses in its core, but ailing, satellite pay-TV business. In the fourth quarter of 2022 alone, Dish lost 268,000 pay-TV customers, which brings the total damage to almost 1m (957,000) subscribers for the whole of 2022 – a huge increase from the 583,000 pay-TV cancellations seen in 2021. Dish TV accounted for over 80% of video cancellations last year, registering 805,000 cord-cutters.
