The world’s largest tire maker, Bridgestone, has tapped Swedish start-up Einride as part of a new collaboration that aims to accelerate the age of autonomous electric trucking. Together the company aims to convert the bulk of Bridgestone’s own fleet of trucks to electric, although the potential for fully Autonomous Electric Transport (AET) and an intelligent freight mobility has much broader implications. The deal itself, signed on August 12th, will see Einride adopt Bridgestone’s smart-sensing tires for its electrified and autonomous Class 8 vehicles.
