Ericsson’s decision to sell its IoT business to California-based Aeris has been misinterpreted by some as a sign of frustration over the sector’s failure to deliver strong growth or cross-platform synergies, as had been hoped, or rather hyped. Like all blanket statements applied to as large, diverse and fragmented a sector as the IoT, if it can be called a sector, this is misleading and oversimplifying.
