Exxon Mobil’s latest “Energy & Carbon Summary” came out this week, releasing Scope 3 emissions for the first time, and promising to give them out once a year going forward. Scope 1 and 2 emissions are those which happen in extracting and processing fossil fuels, scope 3 is when they are burned by customers to produce energy. We’re not sure this wins ExxonMobil any brownie points given that the first number for a year earlier 2019, was released as 570 million tonnes, with 190 million coming from natural gas, and 380 million coming from crude production.
