The perception of wave power is continuing to shift away from stand-alone units, with a future that now hinges on adding some additional oomph to floating offshore wind projects. This week, a new start-up – Marine Power Systems – caught our attention as it looks to do just that. Having raised nearly £3 million in crowdfunding, the company is pushing to deliver its first commercial, grid-connected demonstrator in 2022. Marine Power Systems is unique in that it is aiming to become a leading supplier to both floating wind and wave energy markets.
