Asset management firm Capital Dynamics and independent power producer Tenaska said this week they will join forces to develop 2GW of battery energy storage (BES) in California. The projects are stimulated by the current surge of heat waves in Southern States and should offer a way to handle high demand conditions in the Bay Area, Los Angeles and San Diego. Nine separate projects will get funding across the CAISO independent system operator. The financial triggers seems to be the current heatwave, and the two still have to find offtakers for the electricity, targeting resource adequacy within utilities and CCAs.
