The UK government seems to have found a deal this week which will take future UK nuclear energy efforts out of the control of a French-Chinese cooperative, and put them firmly into UK and American hands. It has done this by promising £210 million of funding to a new Rolls Royce subsidiary (Rolls Royce SMR), separated from the main business, but 80% still owned by UK interests. This was done on a matching investment basis announced in the last few days for industrial funding of £195 million from a combination of Rolls-Royce, BNF Resources UK and US generation firm Exelon Generation.
