The Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) has come out with its annual count-up of wind farms, and says the headline figure for 2019 added over 60GW of capacity, which it says is the second-biggest year to date. Totting up past issues of International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena) we see that in 2014 there were 67 MW of additions, and the past few years there have been similar, but slightly smaller numbers – 2018 was 41 GW, 2017 was 49 GW, and 2016 was 47 GW, and 2015 some 41 GW, to give some context.
