HBO has been experimenting with direct to consumer content since 2005, so it was no surprise to either great rival Netflix or the analyst community when it decided to go direct to consumers with HBO Now in the US in April 2015.   Operations and figures: HBO revenues for the fourth quarter of 2018 were $1.7 billion and included $1.4 billion of subscription and $259 million of content and other revenues. HBO operating expenses totaled $1.1 billion and the operating income margin was 37.2%. HBO Now was last reported to have 5 million subscribers, as of February 2018.
