The efficiency of converting hydrogen into electricity must not be confused as a reason to dismiss its potential. While the first demonstrator units emerge that will use the gas to turn generators, plenty of other use cases will create a feverish marketplace before hydrogen can provide the ‘last-mile’ decarbonization of power grids before 2050. Back in June, a consortium of European stakeholders launched the world’s first initiative to develop a Power-X-Power demonstration project at an industrial scale.
