Iberdrola has entered the renewable hydrogen industry, announcing plans for a green hydrogen production site in Spain with a 100 MW solar and a 20 MWh battery to power it. Located in the industrial town of Puertollano, in the south-central province of Castilla-La Mancha, the plant will involve bifacial PV solar and lithium ion batteries and of course a stackable electrolysis module at a total system cost of $165 million. The facility is not the largest green hydrogen project announced in Europe, but it is bigger than any that are currently live, and will be used to test several technologies, including different proton exchange membranes (PEM).
