While the Western world catastrophizes over Netflix price hikes, quite the opposite is happening in the fascinating video landscape that is India. The over-the-top video landgrab in India has, for many years, been a narrative of mobile-first video streaming at unsustainably low ARPU levels, in a country bereft of fixed broadband lines. Emerging post-pandemic, the market is shifting to reveal a gargantuan opportunity to the tune of some 275m households waiting for fixed broadband services. This comes as telecoms regulator TRAI released figures showing that around 25m households in India are now subscribed to fixed Internet services.
