Responding to an application from the Indian Solar Manufacturers’ Association (ISMA), India’s Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) has launched an anti-dumping investigation into solar cell imports from China, Thailand and Vietnam, covering the 18 months from July 2019 to December 2020. Imports dominating the Indian solar market is nothing new, and nor is an anti-dumping investigation; the first such was back in 2012. But this may be the last of them, as India will bring in a steep Basic Customs Duty of 25% and 40% on imported cells and modules respectively from April 2022, up from the current Safeguard Duty of 15%.
