A senior official in India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has told BusinessLine that a tariff on solar imports will likely be decided next week. The official stated that “The Department of Revenue has informally given their nod” to tariffs of 40% and 25% on modules and cells respectively, requested by the MNRE for at least three years, preferably a five-year period. However, the date at which the Basic Customs Duty will actually be imposed may lie further into the future, even if the time has come to determine its strength.
