The gulf between India’s renewable energy targets and its actual performance has widened, with Prime Minister Modi expanding the country’s 2022 clean energy target from the already optimistic 175 GW, up to 220 GW. Speaking at the Reinvest 2020 Renewable Energy Expo & Conference, Modi also reiterated the 2030 target of 450 GW, and claimed that India was “on track” to meet the two-degree climate change goal. Back in 2017, two years after the 175 GW was first set, the Energy Minister mentioned that it could be upgraded to 200 GW.
