The world of offshore wind has been filled with talks of subsidy free and even negative subsidy projects over recent weeks, following a paper from academics at Imperial College London suggesting that the technology is already competitive with wholesale electricity prices in mature markets. But if the technology is really going to be key to decarbonizing these economies, then its important that governments don’t run before they can walk; offshore wind subsidies need to remain in place until developers can make viable margins off projects in these markets.
