New York is the latest city to start work on building full cellular coverage across its whole network including tunnels, having already done this for stations. The City’s Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) has commissioned Transit Wireless to connect all 418 miles of tunnels and 281 underground subway stations as part of a $600m project that it has estimated will yield $1 bn in undefined benefits over the 10-year lifetime of the contract, which would therefore generate a positive ROI.
