Nokia is in talks with Russian server and storage systems manufacturer Yadro to set up a joint venture to build 4G and 5G virtualized base stations in the country, according to Reuters reports. Like some other major countries such as India and of course China, Russia has, over the past decade, been seeking greater self-sufficiency in critical infrastructure such as mobile networks, prompted by ecnoomic and geopolitical factors. This has led to various rules mandating the use of equipment from local vendors, or at least from international suppliers that manufacture in Russia.
