Other chip companies active in the wireless sector may have reported less disastrous figures than Intel, but they are still facing multiple challenges, as Qualcomm made clear when it warned of a $0.20 reduction in earnings per share in its current quarter, and a 5% fall in overall smartphone sales in 2022. CEO Cristiano Amon did offer some bright news for investors, claiming that a new chip supply and patent licensing deal with Samsung would significantly cushion Qualcomm from the effects of slowdowns in smartphones, its biggest product category.
