Renewables orders this week

Equinor and BP have won contracts for 2.5 GW offshore wind in New York’s latest renewables solicitation. This includes the 1,260 MW Empire Wind 2 and the 1,230 MW Beacon Wind projects which add to the pair’s 816 MW from the Empire Wind 1 in the state. These projects are likely to be installed from 2026, and be eligible for the country’s new 30% Investment Tax Credit (ITC) for offshore wind.

Total has formed a 50/50 partnership with Iberdrola to bid for the 1 GW Thor offshore wind project in Denmark. The tender for the project will take place in Q4 of this year, and is scheduled to be connected to the grid between 2025 and 2027. Eneco and European Energy have formed a similar partnership to bid for the project.


Nordex has received an order for the 141 MW Hocksjon wind farm in Sweden, which will be developed by Jamtkraft and Persson Invest. Turbine installation and completion of the project will take place in 2022.

Engie and Neoen are co-operating to develop a 1 GW solar complex in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France – a project which will include battery energy storage, a data center, and a green hydrogen pilot project.

PepsiCo has signed an offtake agreement for a portion of the output from Orsted’s 298 MW Haystack and 367 MW Western Trail wind projects in the US states of Nebraska and Texas respectively.

China Power Engineering has commissioned the 100 MW Nagong Solar Farm, an agri-voltaic project in Hebei Province, China.

A 50 MW solar plant has been commissioned in China Nuclear Power Group’s mining area near Yumen City, Gansu province.

A 200 MW solar plant has been commissioned by Jilin Electric Power in Shandong Province, China, with 10 MW 2-hour storage.

Invenergy has completed financing for the 1.31 GW Samson Energy Center in north-east Texas, which should be commissioned in 2023.

Asset manager Luxcara has signed an investment deal with BeGreen concerning a four-project 415 MW portfolio in Denmark which the latter will build and operate, with commissioning occurring from 2021 to 2023.

Lightrock Power has announced it is developing the 49 MW Leeming Solar Plant in northern England.

Lightsource BP has secured a PPA from Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS) for the 153 MW Briar Creek solar farm in Texas which is to be completed by the end of this year.


The Canada Infrastructure Bank and Oneida Storage LP have signed an MoU concerning the planned 250-MW 4-hour Oneida Energy Storage project in the state of Ontario, Canada.

Recurrent Energy, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar, has sold the 300 MW Slate solar project to Goldman Sachs, with commissioning expected late this year. The project is located in California and consequently has a hefty 140 MW four-hour battery alongside it.
