Rivian Automotive has duly gone public and made its stock trading debut this week raising $11.9 billion in the large clean energy IPO of all time. But from its $78 launch price the company jumped immediately to $119 before falling back to a more pedestrian 100, still representing 28% one day rise. This shows that investors genuinely believe that Rivian is a true rival to Tesla, and with a valuation today of $98 billion (up from $65 billion on the day) it is currently more highly rated than General Motors or the Ford Motor company, or Stellantis priced as they are at $86 billion, $72 billion and $64 billion.
