After partly missing out on the first three industrial revolutions, Sub-Saharan Africa is intent on latching on to the fourth (Industry 4.0) to join with other developing regions in participating fully in the global digital economy. Rwanda has taken a lead role in this effort and been chosen by the World Economic Forum for deployment of the continent’s second Center for Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR), the first having been located in South Africa. The focus will be on core technologies of the Industrial IoT (IIoT), including data governance and artificial intelligence (AI), primarily machine learning.
