Price rises on solar module components in China are surprisingly persistent, continuing the trend since the start of the year. While this could be said to have begun with accidents shutting down some polysilicon output in the middle of 2020, it is now clearly fuelled by demand, which has been growing by at least 20% world-wide per annum. The supply chain is struggling to keep up as global installations could jump from 146.5 GW in 2020 to as high as 180 GW this year, and we expect costs to start falling again only in the second half of 2021.
